Autumnal DIY Decorations

Autumn, my favourite season not only because my birthday falls into it! But also because it marks the transition from summer to winter. I love watching the ever-changing display of colours that nature provides, the seasonal fruit and vegetables displayed in shops, and the fun you can have experimenting with new recipes. And although I miss the long summer days, feeling I don't need to have an excuse to stay in, curl up on the sofa with a good book or movie feels like I am indulging myself with some much needed 'me time'.

My home has been full of lovely summer flowers but now I turn my creative skills to making some DIY Autumn Decorations. To try and attempt to bring some of this wonderful seasonal change and colour into the house. Inexpensive, full of colour and fun to create here are some DIY Project ideas for you to try out at home too.

What you will need:

  • Leaves from your local park or garden, look for complete flat dried leaves that will be easy to paint and decorate.
  • Acorns with their stems or leaves
  • Ribbon or twine depending on the look you want.
  • Glitter (gold and bronze)
  • PVA or Hodge Podge Glue
  • Spray paint in gold, bronze or glitter
  • Small paint brushes
  • Dried oranges or fruit
  • A plastic tuperwear box or container to pour your glitter into, otherwise it gets everywhere!
Where to buy:

I bought most of the craft items from HobbyCraft but you can probably find them cheaper online elsewhere. http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk

The method:

Just have fun with it! Experiment and find colours and styles you like. For a glossier look, cover dried glitter or paint with more PVA glue, wait to completely dry and using a knitting needle or pencil tip pierce a hole in the leaf to insert ribbon or twine for hanging.
Make extra decorations to add to presents and wrap in parcel paper to give it that autumn, craft look.
